Barack Obama has always tried to use Social Media in his campaigns, and yesterday he tried something new. The website Reddit is a link aggregator, where users can share links like a giant bulletin board or just create public forums to talk. Barack Obama created one of these forums to speak with Reddit users in an "Ask Me Anything" session. Users can publicly post questions and President Obama can respond to them. AMAs are meant to be opportunities for celebrities and political figures to be open with regular people, but in the case of President Obama and others, it's just been used as an opportunity to turn out the same pat answers that you expect politicians to have ready while ignoring more probing ones. Reddit can be a good promotional tool because using it is evidence that you're hip and will come down to meet your fans, even if you don't have anything particularly unique to tell them.
