YouTube: Captain of your TV
Website: Zeebox
Zeebox is a free APP that was created to add social
interaction to the TV viewing experience.
Consumers are encouraged to alert the world about their TV viewing
habits by participating in a Twitter thread displayed on the TV programs Zeebox
page. That page will also provide other related clips, weblinks, photos, etc. for fans to further submerge themselves into the world of TV. You can check what is on at that
time, what your friends are watching, and what celebrities are watching through
this free APP. Zeebox thrives off the polychronic processing that most
viewers participate in today. ‘Second-screening’ has become so popular that
Zeebox chose to take advantage of that second screen for selling ad space and
aggregated audience data back to broadcasters and studios to create revenue.
After great success in the U.K. Zeebox has partnered with U.S companies such
as Comcast, NBC Universal, and HBO, expecting ten times the amount of downloads.
Discussion Questions:
Do you think that Zeebox will be able to compete with other social check-in sites such as Spotify, Shazam, Yahoo's IntoNow, and Miso?
Do you think that this app will reach the success that they have anticipated? And do you think that their video campaign will play a large roll in that success?
