The latest in United Colors of Benetton's "Unhate" campaign focuses on unemployed youth.  Benetton's branding has for a long time focused on multi-racial/cultural/sexual acceptance.  (see: unhate ads) "Un-employee of the Year" is their new tagline, which is linked to a social networking website that is kind of like Linkedin for creative, unemployed young people.  The idea behind the campaign is to embrace these unemployed young people's creative endeavors in a positive way.  The campaign is being handled by a company out of Amsterdam, which sort of explains the creative direction, but is it right for a worldwide campaign?  The media they've used for the campaign range from print and a short film to digital media.

do you guys find this empowering, motivating, or depressing?
do you think a clothing brand should even delve into subjects like unemployment/have a sociopolitical viewpoint at all?  does that make you want to buy clothes?
is the point of this to sell clothes or get people jobs?
do you think the target audience of young unemployed creative individuals will respond positively to this campaign?
